Idina Menzel just brought up Adele Dazeem again and we're here for it
Idina Menzel just brought up the incredibly awkward moment when a Hollywood movie star pronounced her name as Adele Dazeem on stage. Only around 40 million people were watching at the time.
The broadway icon who went on to star in movies, playing the iconic Elsa in Disney’s Frozen, recorded a video to mark 10 years since it happened. At the time, John Travolta was introducing the music star on stage, but instead of saying Idina Menzel, he butchered her name and said Adele Dazeem. Travolta spoke about the incident later, explaining the people behind the Oscars had given him a card which was the reason behind the blunder on live television. Whoops. In terms of mistakes in award show history, this is definitely in the top ten.
Idina Menzel wishes Adele Dazeem happy birthday

The 52-year-old uploaded a TikTok clip over the weekend to celebrate the 10 years since Adele was born.
Back in 2014, Idina Menzel was at the start-studded ceremony to perform Let It Go, from the hit Disney movie. But the now 70-year-old fluffed it up and mispronounced her name on stage.
At the time, John said: “There will always be a special place in my heart for the movie musical and for the songs that create their most memorable moments.
“Here to perform the Oscar-nominated, gorgeously empowering song ‘Let It Go,’ from the Oscar-winning animated movie Frozen, please welcome the wickedly talented, one and only, Adele Dazeem.”
But in a lighthearted video, Idina Menzel clearly still sees the funny side, as she wished Adele Dazeem a happy 10th birthday.
“Hey, Adele Dazeem, it’s Idina Menzel. I just want to say happy birthday,” the Rent star said in the video – as if Adele was a real person.
“I’m sending you so much love and positive energy, I hope you have the best, best day.”
She then went on to sing Happy Birthday to her ‘alter ego’.
‘I think about Adele Dazeem at least once a day’
Fans took to the comments to clearly support her birthday message.
One claimed they think about the blunder ‘every day’, and others couldn’t believe how much time had passed.
They were definitely in on the joke.
One said: “How is our little Adele Dazeem already double digits?”
A second said: “Quite literally peed my pants from laughing so hard seeing Adele Dazeem and I kept rewinding it until I couldn’t breathe”.
“Adele Dazeem is America’s sweetheart,” declared a third, while another echoed: “Adele Dazeem is a freaking icon!”
However, the Pulp Fiction star explained what went wrong when he said her name wrong. It turns out, it was another celebrity who distracted him, as well as phonetic cards
“As I’m backstage, I run into Goldie Hawn,” Travolta explained on the Jimmy Kimmel show.
“Now Goldie Hawn is charismatic, sexy, beautiful, got this amazing thing. And I was starstruck! I’m starstruck, hugging and loving her up, and forgetting that I have to go do this bit and they say, ‘you’re on.’ And I say, ‘Goldie, we’ll talk, you going to the parties? OK, see you then.’ They say, ‘by the way, we’ve changed Idina’s name to a phonetic spelling,’ and I’m like but, but what do you mean — go!”.
He didn’t rehearse it phonetically, so when he got on stage the cards just made it worse.
