Man City WSL star sent off for tackle that "should be two red cards" against Man Utd

Manchester City Women's star Georgia Stanway was sent off in Saturday's derby with Manchester United for a dangerously-high challenge on Leah Galton.

City are currently leading 1-0 in their clash at Leigh Sports Village, with Khadija Shaw's goal seven minutes before the half-time break firing the visitors in front.

The opener from Shaw came just three minutes after Gareth Taylor's side were reduced to 10 men when Stanway was brandished a straight red card.

She received her marching orders after producing a shocking tackle on Galton, missing the ball entirely and sending her studs straight into the United star's thigh.

While it certainly didn't appear intentional, Stanway could have no complaints with the dismissal and City will now be up against it after the interval.

Fans were absolutely stunned by the challenge on social media, even comparing it to United legend Roy Keane's infamous tackle on City's Alf-Inge Haaland in 2001.
